Chelsea Science Center

INTRO

This project is a rentable laboratory design that contains a dry lab and a wet lab corresponding to the commonly short lifespan laboratory phenomena. Due to the lab interlaces with the Highline, the publics is able to peep and explore the high-end technologies in the exhibition.

DYNAMIC SPACE

While the Highline is already an attraction, the Chelsea science center works as a micro-cluster for both public activities and communal nodes. In order to provide comfortable public space. We created spaces from multiple scales that accommodate different groups of people. The cantilevers participate more than a shading device, it communicates among different levels and light up through the residual spaces.

The structural system is composed by columns, beams, trusses, and string cables. In order to achieve the outward expansion morphology, multiple string cables are stretched from the corner of the cantilevers to the top of the double-floor trusses

STRUECTURE

The Chelsea science center is supported by two cores, and using tension from the cores to hang the cantilevers.
